The Coandă effect is a physical phenomenon named after the Romanian scientist Henri Coandă. It occurs when a jet of liquid or gas flowing out of a nozzle tends to deflect toward a wall and, under certain conditions, adheres to it. This happens due to the formation of a vortex in the low-pressure zone near the side wall.
